Old Queen Emerges From Hollywood
Something fits about Queen being the first multimillion-dollar dive by Disney into the world of the big-stakes record biz. Not to suggest that the band is pure Mickey Mouse, but the group is safe, mainstream and already proven successful, even if the band's last genuine hit was 10 years ago. And it took sharing the label with David Bowie to secure that one.
Suffice it to say the latest Queen opus is lavish and lush, thick with pomp and guitar, heroic strutting cadences and, in general, exactly what one might expect from a ballyhooed return to form by Freddy Mercury and the boys. Whether anybody cares or not remains to be seen, but either way, "Innuendo" hardly represents the distinguished initial splash Hollywood Records obviously hoped to make.
